I have so many things to talk about! I went offline the past two days due to traveling to/being in Boston with my mother and grandmother to visit my grandmother’s brother and sister-in-law. It was quite a trip! I am now sitting in a Starbucks in beautiful New York =)
While I was home over the weekend, I really wanted to go to CrossFit Riverfront, which is close to my parents’ house. I wanted to take my Dad on Saturday morning, but due to a mix-up (he thought CrossFit was outside and that it would be too hot, which it would have if it were outside!) we didn’t end up going. I wanted to get a workout in there before leaving for Boston, though, so I got up early on Monday morning and went to the 6:15am class before we hit the road.
Of course, the morning that I visit, the WOD is Fran, one of the most dreaded WODs by all CrossFitters!
Fran is a series of thrusters and pull-ups – 21 thrusters, 21 pull-ups, 15 thrusters, 15 pull-ups, 9 thrusters, and finally 9 pull-ups. Whew! I did NOT use the full 65 pounds that was prescribed for women for the thrusters (95 for men) – I used 45, which was still really hard! One of the things I love so much about CrossFit is that it is completely acceptable and encouraged to modify the weights and moves to your capabilities.
I also did “jumping pull-ups” instead of regular pull-ups– jumping pull-ups are where you jump up with your hands on the bar and lower yourself down slowly, then jump up again for the second rep. I did the set of 21 with a green band (which makes pull-ups easier) but for the set of 15 and the set of 9, I switched to jumping pull-ups. It worked out well!
We each had a partner, and while the first partner completed the WOD, the second counted for them, which was wonderful– when I was so tired, the last thing I wanted to do was count how many of my pull-ups or horrible thrusters I had done.
My partner was Heather, who has been going to CrossFit for 3 weeks! She was doing so well for being relatively new to CrossFit. I loved that her company offered memberships– she said she has to go at least 30 times in 3 months, but they pay for it! That’s awesome. There are a lot of business near the Riverfront where CrossFit was, so I hope that her company is not the only one that does that deal! CrossFit Riverfront is actually just down the street from where I interned the summer before my senior year of college:
CrossFit Riverfront was awesome! If you live or work in Wilmington, I would recommend it so highly! The instructor was great and all the people were very nice =) They were also really great to let me visit, and I will make sure to go every time that I am home!
